Students recognized for Summer Reading

Students at Burns Avenue Elementary School in Hicksville were celebrated on Oct. 9 with Summer Reading Awards. Throughout the summer, these students completed 20 or more reading activities, keeping their minds engaged and their love of reading growing beyond the classroom. The school’s Summer Reading program encourages families to make literacy a part of everyday life, reinforcing the important role that reading at home plays in building lifelong readers and learners.
Principal Bryan Offermann said, “By connecting families with meaningful reading experiences, Burns' Summer Reading Program helps students discover that learning doesn’t stop when the school year ends.” He continued, “at Burns Avenue School, the message is clear: a love of reading begins at home and grows through the support of families, educators, and the community.”
