  • Valentine's Day Thoughtfulness for Veterans

    Ms. Hoover's and Ms. Giovagnoni's Home Base advisory groups created duct tape flower pens and Valentine's Day cards for veterans. Two baskets of hand-made pens and cards were delivered to a VA home on Valentine's Day and were very well received by the veterans.

    Middle school students from grades 6 through 8 were recognized for their nominations to the Heart + Motivation= Success board which can be found in the “Hall of Recognition” near the main lobby.

  • Robotics Competition 2017

    After months and countless hours of preparation and practice, the Hicksville Middle School robotics teams, led by Ms. Temps and Ms. Brucato, competed at the First Lego League Regional Qualifiers in January. The theme for the competition was Animal Allies.

    This year 6th, 7th and 8th grade students participated in the American Mathematics Competition. There were five students who placed at the building level.

  • Home Base Shines at the Middle School

    The Hicksville Middle School Home Base Advisories enjoyed the holiday season by creatively decorating their classroom doors and hallways. Each advisory team worked together to create their own designs.

  • Book Fairies 2017

    Through the National Junior Honor Society, the Book Fairies paid a visit to HMS this year. The Book Fairies are an organization that collects books of all age groups and distributes them to students in need on Long Island.

  • Walk for a Cause 2017

    This year Mr. Tussie conducted his annual "Walk for a Cause" event to support ACDS - the Association for Children with Down Syndrome. The event also served to unite the school community and to bring awareness to Down Syndrome. Hicksville Middle School staff and students participated in the walk and raised $1000.00 for ACDS.

  • “Have Fun for a Cause” Recreation Night and Dance 2017

    Students attended the “Have Fun for a Cause Recreation Night and Dance” on Friday, January 13th. Students had a fun time playing games like ping pong, nok hockey, arcade and nerf basketball, beach ball volleyball, bowling, bean bag toss, checkers, chess, and Connect Four.

    Students from Ms. Biedenbach’s and Ms. Ryan’s classes were Fire Prevention Poster Contest winners for the middle school.

  • Geography Bee 2017

    Each year students display their knowledge of geography in the National Geographic Geography Bee. Hicksville Middle School students competed in the bee, which was coordinated by social studies teacher, Mr. Kerley.

    The finals of the building level Spelling Bee were recently conducted on January 21st. Twenty-five students qualified to compete in the final round.

    The Hicksville Middle School Student Council sponsored our annual toy drive to benefit the Michael Magro and Sarah Grace Weippert Foundations.

  • 6th Grade Team Trips

    Sixth grade students participated in the annual team trips in October. Each team visited a different venue and participated in a wide range of activities.

  • Spirit Night

    Students celebrated Spirit Week at the middle school from November 14th through November 18th. The week ended with Spirit Night on November 18th. Students had a great time at the dance playing games that included ping pong, nok hockey, nerf and arcade basketball, nerf and beach ball volleyball, bean bag toss, bowling, checkers, chess, backgammon, and connect four.

  • Pledging To Be Kind

    In a project led by Mr. Tussie and fellow health teachers, Ms. Giovagnoni, Ms. Hoover, and Mr. Canty, the students and staff at Hicksville Middle School celebrated World Kindness Day by pledging to be kind by affixing their personalized paper hands to a mural created by art teacher, Ms. Powell.

  • Helping Others - Food Drive

    Student Council conducted a food drive to help local families in need. Food was collected during October and November and was delivered to several Hicksville Middle School families just in time for Thanksgiving.

    Ms. Hoover and Ms. Giovagnoni collaborated on a project in their sixth grade health classes. As students worked within a unit on self-esteem, they engaged in a project called I’MPORTANT.

    This fall the Hicksville Middle School Health Department conducted its 5th annual "Walk for a Cause." Event coordinator Anthony Tussie says "This is a tremendous opportunity to unit as a school community to bring awareness and raise money for others."

  • Honoring Those Who Serve

    Members of the middle school Student Council, along with their advisors Ms. Fitzgerald and Ms. Presti, created a display of four hundred flags that were placed on the perimeter of the walkways of the front lawn of the middle school.
